Very good but GG6 has it beat
March 18, 2019
I started with this polisher and while itís no slouch I wish I had bought the GG6 first. The porter cable is highly effective and capable of course but the GG6 is more powerful and wonít stall quite as easily as the PC. I now have a 3 inch backing plate on this for spot corrections or smaller areas and headlights and use a GG6 for larger areas. If youíre debating between the two Iíd recommend getting the GG6.

Using mine for years.
April 18, 2018
Bought mine in 2012, now 2018 and one move from Georgia to Alaska. It still works like the day I bought it. I was using it weekly on customer cars weekly from 2012-2014 and never skipped a beat. Now i use it on my vehicles for wax application or my friends when they want some work done. No complaints from me.

How to get a flawless finish
March 29, 2017
It's great for beginners or after you compound and polish u use a quality liquid wax and buff the vehicle but leave the haze on it. Next, take a microfiber cloth and hand polish off the haze. I use this method with fresh paint and it comes out soo flat and perfect. It's a way to gaurentee a perfect buff job.

Great for beginners
September 15, 2016
Would have to say that it took a good week and a half to relieve the actual polisher. I then realized that it came with the 6 inch counterweight. I was not expecting this since most of the ones I have seen usually come with the 5 inch. I now need to buy a brand new back plate and pads since finding a 5 inch backing plate is harder than I thought. Overall good item.

Need 5 inch counter weight
September 12, 2016
Mine come with 6 inch counter weight. Some come with 5 inch. Had to look high and low to find a 5 inch. Want to use with 3 inch backing plate for motorcycle. Mostly use 5 inch pads anyway except for buffing. Maybe Autopia could stock them?

Good for an enthusiast

This is a very good DA for those that are starting out. It has it's place even when one upgrades to another of the more powerful DA's. Pair this with the Meguiar's Microfiber system or the thin Meguiar's Foam pads and this DA will offer all the correction one needs.

  • Easy to use
  • Works very well
  • Durable
  • Can be used with smaller backing plates as well
  • Well built
  • Not as powerful as some of the newer DA's

PC 7424 XP
October 15, 2014
Very pleased with the PC 7424 XP. I owned the older 7424 until it finally died. The variable speed control is a lot better than the older model. Ergonomics are perfect. It is easy to control even on 6. I use it for mostly for personal use but I have detailed for friends on occasion and they are astonished by the results. The Portal Cable 7424 XP with the right pads and polishes are well worth the investment to any garage or detail business. I highly recommend it to any one starting out or in the industry.
  • Ease of use. Safe to use on any paint.

My first polisher
September 6, 2014
Couldn't be happier with it. For what I need it for, it works flawlessly. Obviously you will have issues with the rotation stopping but learning technique can get you around it. I use this for minor compounding, polishing, applying wax/sealants and even removing the haze with microfiber bonnets. Also its great to have for attaching various brush heads that can make cleaning interiors a breeze. A must have tool IMO
  • So many uses

Porter Cable 7424xp
June 20, 2014
I used a 10" Sears buffer for years and was never completely staisfied with it but it was better that elbow grease. After using this 7424 one time I was amazed how easy it is to use. The variable speed adds flexibility to match the job also. I bought a 5'' backing plate and some 5.5" pads up front and I had everything I needed to complete the job. I plan on buying a 3" backing plate and pads to cover the areas that the 5.5" plate is too large for. This buffer just made all my detailing chores much easier.
  • Variable speed, can use different size pads. easy to use
  • nothing.

Works as advertised, but not for small hands
December 9, 2013
I was impressed with the way the polisher starts slow without a kick and you can put your hand on the polishing face while it is running without hurting yourself (won't burn through the vehicle's paint). I tried using the screw-on handle, but in most polishing positions it made the application awkward, so I took it off and just held the top head of the polisher. And there in lies my problem with the unit and why I can't give it 5 stars. I don't have large hands and I found that where one holds the body of the polisher for a handle to be kind of large and uncomfortable to hold when the machine is running. This became a problem after a few minutes of vibration. Plus if you remove the screw-on handle like I did, the top head of the unit is also not easy to hold when the unit is spinning unless you have large hands. After doing my full size pickup truck my hands were sore the next day. I have seen other polishers with a handle located at the top head and they also are more narrow at the bottom where the other hand holds the unit. I probably would have been better off buying one of those.
  • Good motor, nice clutch, won't burn through paint.
  • Not comfortable to hold for smaller hands.

Much Improved Product
October 14, 2013
I used a 7424 for years when it finally broke beyond reasonable repair. I purchased the 7424XP because of many positive reviews of the polisher. It will not disappoint anyone that uses one. The restyling is much more user friendly and with the 25ft power cord option makes this polisher easy to use. It is worth all 5 stars!
  • New styling makes it easier to use than the previous models. Handle fits will and I really like the 25ft power cord option.
  • Haven't found a dislike about this product yet.

It is a excellent tool and I like it a lot
October 19, 2012
Just as expected and it was easy to use and understand. The build quality seems excellent and I expect to use this for a long time. I am very happy that I got it.
  • Build quality, adjustable speeds
  • I did not expect that it would feel heavy but it does. It takes a little bit more muscle to detail my car now than it used to take when I used my old department store Turtle Was
