Can you Ceramic Coat Matte Wheels with GYEON Q² Rim? Absolutely!

We are often asked if Q² Rim will add gloss or alter the finish of matte and satin wheel surfaces. While this is a fair question given that ceramic coatings do add gloss to painted surfaces, in this case the simple answer is no. Q² Rim will not turn a satin or matte finished wheel glossy. It will offer the same quality protection from brake dust and road grime while delivering a rich and healthy finish that is easy to clean and maintain.

The application method is also exactly the same. Let's walk through it step by step on this Dodge Challenger.

First, we liberally wipe down the wheels finish with GYEON Q²M Prep. This product is designed to leave us a coating ready surface by removing the oils and lubricants from the previous detailing step. It is very important to use a high quality and highly absorbent microfiber towel for this process, as we want the materials removed from the surface and not smeared around. Here we are using the GYEON SoftWipe.

Once the Q²M Prep wipe down is complete, we can begin to apply the GYEON Q² Rim ceramic coating. Always wear gloves to protect your skin. Apply a liberal amount of product to the included suede applicator. I like to fold the applicator in fours for easy handling, but everyone is different.

Set a clear start and stop point for each section based on the wheels design so you don't overlap or miss any areas. Work a thick layer of Q² Rim into the surface in back and forth and overlapping strokes to ensure thorough coverage. Once the area is applied, you can remove the excess coating within 10-15 seconds. If you are in a high humidity environment, then wipe off excess immediately. The coating bonds within 3-5 seconds of interacting with the surface, so no change in performance if you wipe off immediately.

The removal towel in the coating stage is very important as well. I use two towels to make sure I have done it correctly and not left any excess material on the surface that can dry in to a high spot. For my first wipe off of coating I use the GYEON BaldWipe. This is a tightly knit and short pile height towel. I then immediately follow up with the GYEON SoftWipe which is a long fiber, very plush, and extremely absorbent towel to make sure I have no mishaps.

You can add an additional layer of Q² Rim for increased durability, but past two layers there isn't much benefit. Wait at least 4 hours in between layers.

That is it! You have successfully installed GYEON Q² Rim on your satin or matte wheels. They now look fantastic and will be easy and fast to clean, especially on intricate wheel designs.
